Cowl City!

January 22, 2013 by Lee 3 Comments

Hello!  I am so excited to be able to bring out not one but two new cowl designs.  In case you hadn’t guessed, I love to knit and wear cowls.  They are warm and cozy and often give you a chance to try a new technique.  That is certainly the case with these two.

First, the Paint Box Cowl.  This is the direct result of all that playing around with mitered squares that I did in the fall.  Remember?  Then I noodled around with it at Rhinebeck—

Paint Box Cowl

And here it is:

Paint Box 1

Paint Box is a fun mitered squares project–a great introduction if you have never done them before.  It is also a good project to use to play with color–this version uses a main color which is multi-hued and three coordinating solids.  Other versions could use one main color and one solid or you could go nuts and use a different pair of colors for every square!

The second design is Pie R Cowl–a cowl/shawlette that explores shaping in a fun way.  I was playing around with the idea of a cowl that would lie flat around the shoulders but not flap around or slip off.  The result is a combination of lace knitting, short row shaping, and a beautiful yarn that is a true hybrid.

Very pretty. I especially like the soft colours of the paintbox cowl, and it looks as though it would be fun to knit.
